Abstract
<p>Strorage pest Callosobruchus chinensis infects mung beans seed and causes seed weight loss up to 55-69% and protein loss up to 45,6-66,3 persen One of alternatives used to control this pest is the utilization of botanical pesticide made from leaf extract of bitter melon (Momordica charantia). This research was aimed to evaluate the optimal dosage of bitter melon leaf extract (BMLE) in controlling C. chinensisi. Research was conducted in single factor and designated using Completely Randomized Design consisting of 5 dosages of BMLE application (0%, 1.4%, 2.7%, 5.3%, 9.6%). Control used was categorized into 2 types, namely negative control (no BMLE and pest applied) and positive control (5.3% BMLE applied without pest). Each treatment was repeated 5 times and each repetition was represented by 10 pests. Parameters observed were mortality, efficacy, mortality rate, seed weight reduction and seed quality. Results showed that application of 5.3 ad 9.6% BMLE exhibited similar efficacy in both pest control and seed quality. These results emphasized the potential of BMLE to be used as an effective strategy in controlling C. chinensis.</p>
