Abstract
Background: High prevalence of vertigo in Indonesia reaching 50% of the
population of person aged 40-50 years old or in 75 years old. The high case of
vertigo causing health providers to find an effective and efficient physical
examination. Fukuda and Babinski-Weil are the example of the physical
examination to check patient’s body balance. An effective and efficient physical
examination could be figured by knowing the sensitivity and specificity rate of
those examinations.
Method : Observational with cross sectional design to 36 patient who were
diagnosed as vertigo patient and 36 patient who weren’t diagnosed as vertigo
patient at neurology department of PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping hospital. Data
analysis of this research using diagnostic test table to figure the sensitivity and
specificity rate of both examinations.
Result : The examination shows that Fukuda test has higher sensitivity rate
(83,33%) than Babinski-Weil test (80,55%) while for the specificity rate, Fukuda
test has lower rate (22,22%) than Babinski-Weil test (25%).
Conclusion: Fukuda and Babinski-Weil test aren’t adequate enough to help
diagnosing vertigo, but its already enough to be used as vertigo screening
utilities.
