Abstract

Introduction: The current trend of globalization allows someone to be lazy to socialize, thereby reducing one's altruism. Students have an important role to play in applying altruism as a professional value in nursing. Altruism is a principle of concern for realizing the welfare of others with sincerity without expecting anything in return. Aim: To explore the perceptions and attitudes of nursing students about altruism. Methodology: This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected by interviewing online through Zoom and Ms Teams. There were 7 participants in this study who were selected by purposive sampling method. The validity of the data used credibility, transferability, dependability, confirmability tests. Results: The results of this study indicate the perceptions and attitudes of nursing students about altruism, which include altruism to make a person better, altruism as a form of responsibility, altruism as a religious and social value, altruism and affirming factors, as well as altruism and moving factors. Conclusion: Nursing students are important to have altruistic behavior as a form of responsibility and also its application as social and religious values. Altruistic behavior provides many positive benefits for both the helper and the aided. This study also identifies factors that can reinforce and motivate nursing students to behave in altruistic behavior. Suggestions for further researchers need further action in the results of this study to identify factors that can increase altruistic behavior so that it can be used as a reference for increasing altruistic behavior.
