Abstract

Teachers have crucial roles in the world of education because they come as a key figure of learning, and good teachers’ personality can foster students’ learning motivation. Besides, how the teachers increase the competence of personality comes as an important one in the process of teaching and learning. This study aimed to determine the relationship between teachers’ personality and students’ motivation in learning English. This research adopted a quantitative method to research this case in order to achieve the research purposes. This research was conducted at English Language Education Department (ELED) of a private university in Yogyakarta as the research setting to collect the data of this research. The researcher chose the students of batch 2018 as the population of this research with the total of 144 students from class A to class F who had answered the provided questionnaires .The data were gathered using the questionnaire. The result of the teachers’ personality of a private university in Yogyakarta showed that the teachers' personality was in the good category with the mean score of 3.14. The result on students’ motivation in learning English showed that the mean score of 3.16 was in the moderate category. Based on the correlation test, the result of the Pearson Correlation (r-value) was 0.992 with a significant value (p-value) of .000 which there was a positive correlation between teachers’ personality and students’ motivation.
