Abstract
Background: Hypothyroidism is still a problem in many countries, including Indonesia. TSH examination is considered sensitive and effective for hypothyroidism screening. In hypothyroid conditions, TSH levels tend to be abnormal or even rise. One way to improve TSH levels within the normal range is by exercising. Exercising for 30 minutes a day is considered capable of affecting TSH levels. Methods: This study is a quasi experimental study with a pre-post test control group design. The research topics were natives and elementary school students in grades 4-6. A total of 30 students in the intervention group did additional sports games with a duration of 30 minutes for 5 days a week, carried out for 7 weeks and 30 students as a control group. The intervention and control groups were not restricted to other activities. Results: The results of the bivariate analysis showed that the TSH levels in the intervention group before being treated by sport games was 3.1680 ± 1.84035 mIU / L and after being given treatment was 4.2307 ± 2.63812 mIU / L. There was a significant increase in TSH levels in the intervention group (p = 0.000). The TSH value in the control group before the study was 3.3860 ± 1.80932 and after the study it was 3.8927 ± 3.43848 which showed insignificance (p = 0.673). Both groups showed an insignificant increase in TSH levels and the comparison of changes in TSH levels between the two groups showed a statistical increase with p = 0.198. Conclusion: The addition of sports games with a duration of 30 minutes 5 times per week for 7 weeks on a routine basis, tended to increase TSH levels higher than without the addition of sports games (p = 0.198).
