Abstract
The aim of this study to determine the factors and impact of demotivation on Japanese language education students at the Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method to obtain data from students which is can described as research results. The subjects in this study were 45 PBJ (UMY) students from batch 2017-2019 class. The research instrument used in collecting the data was in the form of a questionnaire to determine the factors and impacts of demotivation and interviews to further deepen the answers of the respondents. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the determinants of student demotivation are; Student condition factor, student ability factor, friendship environmental factor, school environmental faktor, and lecturer's way of teaching. While the impact of demotivation experienced by students is difficult to absorb the material provided, lazy to attend lectures, feel that they have chosen the wrong study program, decreases academic grades, and becomes less confident in their Japanese language skills to get a job what they want after graduated from PBJ (UMY).
