DAMPAK EKSPLORASI DAN EKSPLOITASI WILAYAH ARKTIK TERHADAP HUBUNGAN AMERIKA SERIKAT - RUSIA PADA TAHUN 2008 - 2020

Climate change opens the potential for exploration and exploitation of Arctic Region’s resources. As arctic circle countries, the United States and Russia have ambitions and interest in the Arctic Region which are stated in their ‘Arctic Strategy’. The history of rivalry in Cold-War between the two countries becomes an interesting discussion regarding the impact of exploration and exploitation of Arctic region towards the United States and Russia relation in 2008 – 2020. This research used Neoclassical Realism framework and Neoclassical Realism model in foreign policy making. The results show that US – Russia has a ‘Limited Partnership’ relationship, namely the existence of cooperative relations in certain fields such as countering terrorism. However, the two countries are involved in power competition in the Arctic Region by increasing military activities and seek to increase each other’s influence in the international arena. This qualitative research is supported by data obtained through books, journals, news portals, and official websites.
