Abstract
Background: The choice of restoration material that attracts the public's attention
is high aesthetic restoration. One of them is composite resin because it has good
color stability, but its weakness is secondary caries. Resin modified glass ionomer
cement (RMGIC) and compomer restorations application has been proven to
prevent secondary caries in high risk caries patients, however their surfaces could
be degraded by acid solution. Apple vinegar is one of drink with a low pH that
contains acid, which has a pH of 3.2 which can cause the dissolution of the
restoration matrix, causing the surface of restoration be rough.
Research Objective: This study was to determine differences of surface roughness
in restoration of Resin Modified Glass Ionomer Cement (RMGIC) and compomer
after apple vinegar solution soaking.
Materials and Methods: The study is a true laboratory experimental. 36 samples
were used, consisting of 18 compomer samples and 18 RMGIC samples. There are
4 groups, each group consist of 9 samples. Those are RMGIC immersed in artificial
saliva group, RMGIC immersed in apple cider vinegar solution group, compomer
immersed in artificial saliva group, and compomer was immersed in an apple cider
vinegar solution group. All group are immersed for 7 days at 37° C in incubator.
The roughness value is measured by surface roughness tester.
Results: Result were analyzed statistically using the one way ANOVA test and posthoc analysis with a significance 0.00.
Conclusion: There are differences in surface roughness in restoration of Resin
Modified Glass Ionomer Cement (RMGIC) and compomer after apple cider vinegar
soaking
