Abstract
Background: Hypertension or high blood pressure is a chronic disease that can cause complications such as heart disease, kidney failure, stroke and other serious diseases if not controlled. During the Covid-19 pandemic, people with co-morbidities are one of the groups that are very vulnerable to being exposed to the virus. The percentage of comorbidities included hypertension (50.5%). Self-management is the foundation to be able to control hypertension and prevent complications of hypertension. However, during the Covid-19 pandemic, it can affect the management of chronic diseases such as hypertension because it is caused by several factors as an effort to prevent Covid-19 transmission. Aims: This study aims to determine the experience and application of self-management in hypertensive patients during the Covid-19 pandemic Methodology: This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. There were 9 participans in this study who were determined using purposive sampling technique. Results: The results showed that the experience of self-management in hypertensive patients during the Covid-19 pandemic was described by 3 themes; hypertension self-management behavior, Changes that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic, supporting and inhibiting factors for self-management in hypertensive patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. Conclusion: Self-management of patients with hypertension did not experience significant changes between before and after the pandemic, but there were changes in management that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic. The availability of family support, health workers and health services makes people with hypertension continue to carry out self-management well during the Covid-19 pandemic.
