Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyse the reason behind the Indian government under Narendra Modi’s administration reason behind abrogating Jammu and Kashmir’s special provisions namely, Article 370 and Article 35A. Whereas when looking at the background of Jammu and Kashmir these special statuses were issued in the Indian Constitution and have been executed and applied for more than 70 years. This research focused on the Hindu nationalism that the people of India have strongly adhered to and have escalated since the administration of Prime Minister Narenda Modi. This research tries to explain how the policy is made through the idea of a political system. This research then becomes important because the issue of the revocation of J&K’s status have become a global humanitarian issue that needs to be addressed. This theory explains the government of India’s decision-making process through demands and encouragement from the people and important political organizations which later go through major right-wing political parties especially the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who is very influential and plays a big part in the election of Narendra Modi and the escalation of the Hindutva ideology. Keyword(s): Jammu and Kashmir, Special Provisions, Article 370, Article 35A, Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Janata Party, Hindutva, Nationalism
