Abstract
Since the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, came to power, tensions between Muslims and Hindus have increased in most parts of the country. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its parent organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are a far-right, Hindu nationalist political party and volunteer organization, respectively. Both organizations have a close affiliation with Modi and Hindutva doctrine and are responsible for discrimination and prejudice against Muslims across the country. This study analyses subtle and explicit acts of discrimination against Muslims carried out by the RSS in Narendra Modi’s administration. RSS and its radical Hindu nationalist ideology have sparked controversies since its foundation in 1925 including its link to the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, and the Ayodhya dispute that leads to the destruction of the Babri Mosque. Despite that, the RSS has gained tremendous support from the Indian community over the last decades until PM Narendra Modi and the BJP governments were elected. The discrimination against Indian minorities is becoming more systematic, and the effect on Indian Muslims is detrimental as it is ultimately reflected in the establishment of The Citizenship Amendments (CAA) in 2019. The flag of Islamophobia in the hands of the BJP is raised as a force for religious corruption; erode secularity and religion away from state freedom.
