Abstract
Clozapine is an atypical antipsychotic that is indicated for the treatment of patients who are resistant to antipsychotic therapy, when other antipsychotics have failed. Clozapine has great efficacy but has many side effects such as agranulocytosis, sedation, seizures and weight gain compared to other atypical antipsychotics. This study aims to describe the use and incidence of clozapine side effects at the Yogyakarta Grhasia Mental Hospital (RSJ Grhasia) for the period January – December 2019. This study is a non-experimentaI study using a descriptive anaIysis design and carried out retrospectiveIy using patient medicaI records at the Grhasia MentaI HospitaI Yogyakarta (RSJ Grhasia). SampIes were taken from medicaI records of inpatients and outpatients from January to December 2019 who received a Clozapine prescription. The number of sampIes that met the incIusion criteria were 336 medicaI records. The study of the use and side effects of clozapine was evaIuated based on guidelines or journaIs and presented descriptiveIy using percentages. The resuIts showed that the use of Clozapine in the Grhasia MentaI HospitaI (RSJ Grhasia) for the January - December 2019 period was the most wideIy used for schizophrenia therapy (71.13%). Therapy using Clozapine showed a fairIy high improvement in patients. This can be seen from the IeveI of the patient's discharge from the hospitaI with the condition improving 30.65%, controI 69.05% and worsening 0.30%. The incidence of side effects was experienced by 54 patients with an incidence rate of 16.07%. The most common side effects were dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, and hypersaIivation experienced by 6 patients (1.79%). Side effects were treated with additionaI therapy for 39 (72.2%) patients, 13 (24.1%) patients were not given therapy and 2 patients (3.7%).
