Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe how the management of vertical gardens as an alternative to reforestation in supporting the Smart Environment in the city of Yogyakarta. Vertical garden is one solution that can be applied by cities with limited vacant land to maintain greenery in the city environment. This study uses qualitative research methods with primary and secondary data conducted in the city of Yogyakarta. The results show that vertical gardens are more dominantly applied to commercial buildings than in public spaces or community environments. Planning that is less than optimal in causing the impact of vertical gardens has not been maximized in solving environmental problems, especially in the city of Yogyakarta.
