Abstract
Slimming herbal medicine is a traditional medicine in Indonesia that is efficacious for weight loss. People think that traditional medicine is safer than chemical medicine because traditional medicine has fewer side effects than chemical medicine. Increased public interest in consuming herbal medicine is misused by producers by adding medicinal chemicals (BKO) to slimming herbs which are shown so that these products provide a faster effect so that they are more attractive to consumers. This study aims to determine the medicinal chemicals sibutramine HCl and bisacodyl in slimming herbs sold online and to determine the levels contained in slimming herbs. This study uses samples taken from an online shop, namely Shopee. The samples of slimming herbs obtained were 20 samples of herbs with different brands and analyzed at the Pharmacy Laboratory of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. In this study, the method used was the TLC method as a qualitative analysis with UV light at 254 nm and 366 nm which then calculated the Rf value and the UV-Vis spectrophotometer method as a quantitative analysis by looking at the levels of BKO in the herbal medicine sampels. The results of the qualitative analysis using the TLC method identified 6 samples of herbal medicine from 20 samples suspected of containing BKO bisacodyl, and identified 7 samples of herbal medicine from 20 samples suspected of containing BKO sibutramine HCl. Samples of herbs suspected of containing bisacodyl were samples A, C, F, N, O, and P. While samples of herbs suspected of containing sibutramine HCl were samples A, C, E, G, I, K, and P. Results of quantitative analysis with UV-Vis spectrophotometer obtained levels of bisacodyl in samples A, C, F, N, O, and P respectively, namely 5.27 g/mL, 6.66 g/mL, 4.39 g/mL, 6.56 g/ mL, 7.24 g/mL, and 2.12 g/mL. Sibutramine HCl levels obtained in samples A, C, E, G, I, K, and P respectively were 2.263 g/mL, 6.55 g/mL, 0.803 g/mL, 2.561 g/mL, 9.393 g/mL , 3.021 g/mL, and 2.268 g/mL. This study showed that the twenty sampels of slimming herbs contained medicinal chemicals (BKO) sibutramine HCl and bisacodyl.
