Abstract
The ability of antibiotics to treat and prevent infections causes their use to be too broad. As a result, the microbes become resistant to antibiotics. The incidence of resistance can have an impact on increasing morbidity, mortality, and health costs. To prevent an increase in antibiotic resistance, education is needed regarding the use of antibiotics so that there is no misuse in the community. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effect of education through leaflet media on the level of antibiotic knowledge in Ngaglik 1 Public Health Center patients. This study used a quasi-experimental research method with a pre-test post-test control group design. This research was conducted at Ngaglik 1 Public Health Center from January to February 2021 to 60 respondents who were divided into two groups, namely the control group and the intervention group. The analytical method used is the Wilcoxon test to determine the differences in pre-test and post-test in one group and the Mann-Whitney test to determine the effect of education on the level of knowledge. The results showed that most respondents were female with the adult age category (26 - 35 years) working as private employees and the last education was high school. Amoxicillin is the most widely prescribed antibiotic. The results of Wilcoxon analysis show the p value of the control group> 0.05 (0.593), which means that there is no significant difference between the pre-test and post-test in the control group, but in the intervention group the p value is <0.05 (0.01), which means that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test of the intervention group. The results of the Mann-Whitney analysis obtained p value <0.05, namely 0.001. This means that there is a significant difference between the difference in the scores of the control group and the intervention group. So, it assumed that there is an effect of education on the level of antibiotic knowledge.
