Abstract
Islamic banking was developed to serve two purposes: to replace interest-based loan with profit-andloss-sharing investment schemes and to promote equity and sustainability in the allocation of resources. The foundation for the sustainability of Islamic banking operations is in the real sector, so that unnatural fluctuations in the macroeconomic will threaten the resilience of Islamic banking. On the other hand, the growth in the size of Islamic banking in Indonesia continues to grow well. The empirical study states that the bigger the size of the bank, the more vulnerable to shocks and potential for bank failure. Therefore, this study mainly aims to measure the resilience of Islamic banking in Indonesia. This study uses an early warning system approach and constructing a composite index of 4 macroeconomic indicators and 12 indicators of Islamic banking financial ratios from 2010 to 2020. The main findings of this study indicate that banking resilience occurs by placing the leading macroeconomics indicators and Islamic banking performance at an optimal level. The optimal level of GDP is in the range of 1.59% to 2.87%. Inflation -0.43% to 0.37% (m-t-m). Nominal Exchange Rate against USD is Rp. 8,664 to Rp.12,056 and JII is 0.42% to 7.85%. For internal Islamic banking, the optimal level of NPF is in the range of 2.62% to 3.95%. CAR is 13.44% to 16.61%. CEAEA is 3.55% to 5.54%. IPR is 33.65% to 38.81%. FDR is 77.53% to 89.36%. LA is 24.52% to 29.13%. NCD is 49.87% to 53.83%. NPM is 13.74% to 19.98%. ROA is 1.37% to 2.09%. NOM is 1.04% to 1.62%. CIR is 76.37% to 85.41%. PLS is 2.33% to 3.40%. Finally, this study concludes that the balance of assets, funding, and intermediation efficiency of Islamic Banking in Indonesia is supported by macroeconomic stability.
