Abstract
According to the data presented by Statistics Indonesia year 2019, within the last five years,
the percentage of elderly in Indonesia has increased four times becoming 9.6% (25 million).
The increasing life expectancy of the elderly in Indonesia has triggered several issues, one
of which is death anxiety. One of the factors that influence an individual’s death anxiety is
faith in religion. A religious individual and one who understands the essential religious
preaching is undoubtedly aware that preparing for death is an inevitable obligation. Among
the elderly, this obligation is approaching as they are getting older and thus their death risk
is getting higher when compared to other age groups. This research aims to identify the
correlation between religiosity and death anxiety among the elderly. This research used a
quantitative approach. The samples of this research were determined through purposive
sampling technique with a total of 31 elderly respondents consisting of 17 males and 14
females. The research result showed that the level of religiosity among the elderly is high
with a percentage of 61.3%. Whilst, the elderly’s death anxiety is low with the percentage
of 71%. The research result also indicated a positive correlation between religiosity and
death anxiety. This was seen from the result of the Spearman’s Rho correlation test of 0.380
which indicated a positive correlation between the two variables with a significance value
smaller than 0.05 (0.035 < 0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that the higher the religiosity
level is, the higher the death anxiety among the elderly is.
