Abstract
This study aims to determine the strategies adopted by schools and teachers in an effort to develop interest in reading elementary school students at Jogja Green School (JGS) along with the inhibiting and supporting factors. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques used the instruments of observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique went through several stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The subjects in this study were school principals and classroom teachers using purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques. The strategy that has been implemented and implemented by principals and teachers is to create reading interest development programs such as 30 minutes of Reading Time, recommend reading materials, and instill positive thinking regarding the importance of reading. Supporting factors in efforts to develop students' interest in reading are the motivation of parents, supportive school communities and the availability of reading books. The inhibiting factors are the students' lack of mastery of vocabulary and a less conducive environment in the classroom.
