Abstract
Energy demand in Indonesia is very large and plays an important role in
human survival. Dependence on the use of fossil energy causes the reserves of energy
sources to decrease over time. Oil palm is one of the few crops in Indonesia that
produces oil for commercial purposes. The palm oil industry will generate solid
waste from the palm oil processing process. Palm oil waste is in the form of empty
bunches, shells and midribs, which are leftovers from the processing of the palm oil
industry that have not been fully utilized. Plastic is a factor that is quite a lot in the
problem of waste in Indonesia. Themethod Microwive Co-Pyrolysis is an alternative
for this waste treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine the kinetics
characteristics of microwive co-pyrolysis from a mixture of biomass (oil palm empty
bunches) withplastic Low Density PolyEthylene (LDPE)with a power of 450 Watt.
The kinetics analysis uses themethod thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)which
includes maximum temperature, heating rate, mass loss rate, and activation energy.
The ratio of biomass mixture with LDPE varies at 100%: 0%, 75%: 25%, 50%: 50%,
25%: 75%, and 0%: 100%. All variations use 50% of the amaterialbsorber of the
total sample mass. Data was collected for 1 hour and recorded per second.
ResultResearch shows that the material content of the test material
affectvalue, temperarure maximum the heating rate, mass loss ratedecreasedand
increases in thevalue activation energy. Thevalue is heating rate 0.2209 ° C / second
to 0.0785 ° C / second and the mass loss rate has a value of 0.005004 gram / second
to 0.000334 gram / second. the variation of 100%: 0% empty bunches has an EA
value of 25.723 kJ / mol and an increase in the variation of 0%: 100% with a value of
76.214 kJ / mol. These results indicate that the co-pyrolysis solid waste from palm oil
and plastic waste has different effects when the two materials are mixed.
