Abstract
Along with the development of the times that lead to microtechnology and the increasingly encountered application of two-phase flow in the field of engineering, health, and in everyday life, this research aims to get a primer data on the characteristics of flow patterns, flow pattern maps, void fractions, and two-phase flow pressure gradients in mini-pipes so that later it can be used as a reference in the development of technology science. This study was conducted using a test section in the form of a glass pipe with a diameter of 1.6 mm at a tilting position of 40 degrees against the horizontal, the working fluid used is a gas fluid in the form of dry air and liquid fluid in the form of a mixture of 65% aquades, 30% glycerin, and 5% butanol. The liquid superficial speed (JL) set at JL = 0.033 m/s – 4,935 m/s and the gas superficial speed (JG) set at JG = 0 m/s – 66.6 m/s with research conditions considered adiabatic. Data on flow patterns are obtained directly from video footage taken using high-speed cameras, void fraction data is obtained from image processing of stream pattern video using MATLAB R2014a software, and pressure gradient data is obtained from mpx system readings of pressure drop processed using Microsoft excel software. From the results of research that have been done obtained the results of research that are an identified flow pattern that is dispersed bubble, plug, slug annular, annular, and churn. Some variables that affect the formation of flow patterns are viscosity, surface tension, and superficial speed. In addition to flow patterns, some of the variables obtained from this study are flow pattern maps, void fraction characteristics, and pressure gradient characteristics.
