Abstract
The development of the industrial world today, aluminum, is one of the
materials that is widely used in engineering. Pulley is a component that functions
as a liaison or transfer power / engine speed to the load through the vbelt belt.
This study aims to determine the mechanical properties such as: hardness,
toughness, and ductility of the results of centrifugal casting made from used brake
shoes with variations in rotational speed of 0 rpm, 100 rpm, 200 rpm. This
research method uses the centrifugal casting method which is then carried out by
making specimens and collecting test data. Analysis of the results of the brinell
hardness test showed that aluminum castings for the manufacture of pulleys with
the addition of 200 rpm and 100 rpm mold rotations had a better indentation
footprint of 2.71 mm and 2.72 mm compared to stationary molds of 2.92 mm. The
results of the impact test of the charpy method, specimens with mold rotational
speeds of 200 rpm and 100 rpm, had a better impact value of 0.026 J/mm² and
0.023 J/mm² while the stationary mold was 0.022 J/mm². From this research, it
can be concluded that the variation of rotational speed on the centrifugal casting
machine is very suitable for use in casting aluminum pulleys.
