Abstract

Biodiesel from vegetable oils has a deficiency, which is high viscosity and
low heat value. To get optimal biodiesel, it is necessary to improve its properties
by mixing the two oils. This study was conducted with the aim to obtain the
characteristics of mixed biodiesel and find out the influence of the composition of
biodiesel blended palm oil and nyamplung oil on the physical properties of
biodiesel.
This research was started by making biodiesel using degumming,
esterification, and transesterification processes. Making biodiesel is done by
varying the mixture of nyamplung-palm oil with diesel fuel 5:95, 10:90, 15:85,
20:80, 25:75, 30:70, 35:65, 40:60 (%). Research on the physical properties of the
fuel includes a flash point test, calorific value, and a diesel engine test by varying
the mixture of palm oil and nyamplung oil B5, B10, B15, B20, B25, B30, B35 and
B40.
Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that as the
composition of nymplung-palm oil increases, the flash point value will increase. As
the composition of the nyamplung-palm oil mixture increases, the calorific value
produced decreases. Biodiesel which has the highest SFC number in fuel
consumption is biodiesel with the B40 variation with an SFC number of 0.64
kg/kW.hour at maximum loading.
