Abstract

Along with the population and increasing economic growth in Indonesia, it
has an impact on energy needs, especially diesel fuel. Meanwhile, petroleum
reserves are running low because they are no longer available. Therefore, efforts
are needed to switch to using renewable energy sources that can be used as an
alternative to petroleum. Biodiesel is a renewable energy that can be used as an
alternative fuel for diesel engines. However, the resulting characteristics still do not
meet the standards so that further research is needed to improve the physical
properties of viscosity and density to overcome these problems. This study aims to
obtain the characteristics and viscosity of the injection characteristics of the
jatropha-soybean and nyamplung-soybean biodiesel mixtures.
This study used a mixture of jatropha-soybean and nyamplung-soybean
biodiesel samples with various ratios of 1:9, 2:8, 3:7, 4:6, 5:5, 6:4, 7:3, 8:2 and 9: 1
and B30 from a mixture of jatropha-soybean and nyamplung-soybean biodiesel for
comparison. All samples were then tested for the physical properties of the fuel to
obtain the values of density, viscosity and injection characteristics in the form of
spray angle and spray length. In testing the characteristics of the injection, an image
is taken in the form of an injection spray.
The results showed that the density and viscosity of the jatropha-soybean and
nyamplung-soybean biodiesel mixtures were higher than the B30 mixture variation.
The best density and viscosity values were obtained in the jatropha-soybean B30
biodiesel mixture of 822.85 kg/m3
and 5.83 cSt. The injection characteristics test
showed that the blend of jatropha-soybean biodiesel B30 had the best spray
penetration angle of 15.10o
compared to the blend of jatropha-soybean and
nyamplung-soybean biodiesel.
