Abstract
Skripsi is a requirement for students to graduate from university in Indonesia. Skripsi
is a product of writing. Students of English Language Education Department must write their
skripsi using English Language. There are problems that students face in writing skripsi. This
research aimed to find out the problems faced by the students. The research was conducted at
English Language Education Department (ELED) at a private university in Yogyakarta.
Qualitative approach with descriptive qualitative design was applied in this research. The
researcher conducted interview as the technique to collect the data. The participants in this
research were three students who were still in the process of writing their skripsi. They have
some criteria such as the participants should have been done or been in the process of
completing a skripsi, and the participants were willing to participate in the research. The
result of this research showed the problems related to writing skripsi included the problems in
deciding topic of writing, the students’ low English mastery, the problems in grammar and
vocabulary mastery, the problems in finding the references, the lack of motivation in writing,
the non-supportive environment factors, the unfamiliar format in writing, and the problems
in presenting the findings.
