Abstract
Choosing the right strategy to deliver teaching materials is an important thing that
is needed to be considered by teachers in the teaching and learning process. It is because
teachers need to make sure that learners understand the materials. Using the right strategy
can give benefits for teachers, especially in the teaching process. Besides that, learners
will be able to understand the materials easily. Mind mapping strategy is a note-taking
strategy that utilizes learners’ understanding about some topic to be created in smaller
parts and linking it through branch ideas. This article presents teachers' perception in
using the Mind Mapping Strategy in Teaching reading and writing. This article discusses
how the teachers implement the mind mapping strategy to teach reading and writing and
the benefits perceived by the teachers in implementing the Mind Mapping strategy to
teach reading and writing. This research employed a qualitative research approach with
descriptive qualitative design. The participants in this research were teachers at an English
Language Education Department in a private university in Yogyakarta. It is expected that
this research can be beneficial for other teachers to consider whether to use the Mind
Mapping strategy to teach reading and writing.
