Abstract
Pepper exports are one part of Indonesia's main export commodities. We all know that Indonesia
is the largest exporter of pepper in the world, followed by Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Within ten years, namely 2004-2013, Indonesia was the second producer and exporter of pepper
in the world after Vietnam. The large growth in world pepper demand has encouraged exporting
countries to increase their pepper exports. The main competitor countries for Indonesian pepper
are Vietnam and Brazil. Therefore, we need to know what affects Indonesia's pepper exports to
foreign countries. The independent variables used were total production, the world price of
pepper, Indonesian exchange rate, and GDP growth, while the dependent variable used was
pepper export volume. Where in this study used data from 1990 to 2018. In this study, the
researchers used the ECM (Correction Model) method. The results of the long-term research
show that the production and price variables have a positive and significant relationship, as well
as the exchange rate variable, although it has a negative but significant relationship to pepper
exports. However, the GDP growth variable has a negative and insignificant relationship with
pepper exports. Meanwhile, in the short term, the production variable has a positive and
significant relationship with pepper exports. However, the price variable and GDP growth have
a positive and insignificant relationship, as well as the exchange rate variable has a negative
and insignificant relationship with pepper exports.
