Abstract
This study aims to find out how the audience accepts, stores and interprets the
ideal body of women shown in the Korean drama 'My ID is Gangnam Beauty'.
This research uses Stuart Hall's reception study theory with in-depth interview
data collection techniques. The Korean drama My ID is Gangnam Beauty is the
work of director Choi Sung-Bum. The drama series, which premiered in South
Korea in 2017, is about the standardization of beautiful women and
discrimination in South Korea with the combined-romantic genre. The results of
this study indicate that the majority of informants are in a dominant hegemonic
position. However, several other informants were also in a position to read the
opposition. The diversity of the positions of the informants is influenced by the
socio-cultural background of each informant. Keywords: Reception Analysis,
Beauty, South Korean Drama Series, My ID is Gangnam Beauty.
