Abstract
In this era, the flow of two phases is widely found in industrial processes as well as in daily activities, such as heat exchanger, geothermal, boiler, piping system, condenser, and others. This study aims to find out the characteristics of flow patterns, flow pattern maps, pressure gradients, and vacuum fractions contained in two-phase flows in mini-pipes, later this research is used as a reference in the development of technology science. This research was conducted using a test section in the form of glass pipes with a diameter of 1.6 mm at the position of the pipe 20 degrees against the horizontal. The fluids used in this study are a gas fluid in the form of dry air and a liquid fluid in the form of a mixture of 67% aquades, glycerin 30%, and butanol 3%. The superficial speed used is the liquid superficial speed (JL) of 0.033 – 4,935 m/s and the gas superficial speed (JG) of 0 – 66.6 m / s with research conditions considered adiabatic. In this study, data on flow patterns were obtained directly from video footage taken using high-speed cameras with visualization methods. Void fraction data is obtained from image processing of video flow patterns using MATLAB R2014a software. Pressure gradient data is obtained from MPX system readings to pressure drop processed using Microsoft excel software. From the experiments conducted there are characteristics of flow patterns identified namely dispersed bubble, plug, slug-annular, annular, and churn. Flow patterns are affected by viscosity, surface tension, superficial speed. In addition to the variable flow patterns obtained from this study are flow pattern maps, void fractions, and pressure gradients.
