Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of totally physical response on maharah kalam in Arabic language learning in fifth grade students of SD Muhammadiyah Sapen Nitikan Yogyakarta, and to find out how effective the application of the totally physical response method is in increasing maharah kalam. This research was conducted using a mixed method approach in a systematic way through field testing by conducting an assessment so that the final result will meet the activity and usefulness. The data were obtained by using the methods of observation, interviews, documentation and questionnaires. The results in this study indicate that the method used by Arabic teachers in the learning process is a direct method using an intermediary or zoom meeting application, Youtube and whatsapp, as well as the TPR method as a learning method. The researcher also found that the language teaching method is based on the coordination between speech and action. The basic assumption of the TPR method is that children's language acquisition is obtained from the process of interaction between teachers and students which is then responded to with actions. The TPR method is effective in increasing maharah kalam in Arabic language learning in class V SD Muhammadiyah Sapen Nitikan Yogyakarta with a significant value of 0.000 <0.05 from the results of linear regression calculations. between 0.032 to 0.846. Based on this analysis, the lowest coefficient value obtained is 0.032 and the highest coefficient value obtained is 0.846. There are 13 valid items and 2 items that are declared invalid
