Abstract

Two-phase flow (two-phase flow) is part of a multi-phase flow that only
involves two kinds of forms of a substance in a flow. Two-phase flow has various
mixtures, which can be classified into gas-solid, gas-liquid, and liquid-solid mixtures.
The purpose of this study was to determine the flow characteristics of multi-phase gasa mixture of aquades, glycerin, butanol in a mini pipe with a slope with flow pattern
parameters, flow pattern map, void fraction, and pressure gradient in order to obtain
primary data.
This research was conducted using a test section in the form of a mini glass
pipe with a diameter of 1.6 mm with a length of 130 mm with a slope of 40⁰ to the
horizontal. The working fluid used in this research is a mixture of air, 25% distilled
water, 70% glycerin, and 5% butanol. The value of the superficial velocity of gas and
liquid varies with the range of values JG = 0.025 – 66.618 m/s and JL = 0.033 – 4.958
m/s. The data of flow pattern characteristics and void fraction in this study were
obtained using a high speed camera with a speed of 1200 fps. The flow pattern data is
then processed using the visualization method through the MP4 to MPEG program and
then processed using virtualdub. In processing the empty fraction data, the method
used is digital image processing with the MATLAB R2014a program. The pressure
gradient uses an MPX System fluid pressure sensor which is connected to a computer
using a USB.
In this study the flow patterns obtained are: plug, slug, annular, slug annular,
and churn. From the results of the flow pattern map, the flow pattern is dominated by
the slug annular flow pattern. The results of the void fraction research show that the
higher the value of JG, the greater the value of the void fraction, while the higher the
value of JL, the value of the void fraction decreases. The results of the pressure
gradient show that the value of the superficial velocity JG and JL can affect the value
of the pressure gradient, the increasing the value of JG and JL, the value of the pressure
