Abstract
Two-phase flow is generally a form or different forms that flow in a stream. Flow is
the process of moving fluid from one point to another. A phase is a number of substances
that are homogeneous, both chemically and physically. Two-phase flow is found in
biomedicine which is often referred to as the cardiovascular system. Cardiovascular is the
process of circulating blood from the heart throughout the body through blood vessels. The
process of blood circulation in the body can occur at any time. To find out if there is a
disturbance in the blood circulation system, it is necessary to first know the normal
characteristics of the circulatory system.
This research is an investigation of a two-phase flow pattern using a 160 mm long
acrylic pipe with a diameter of 1.6 mm with respect to the horizontal position. The liquid
solution in this study used a mixture of aquades-coconut oil emulsion 350 mg/dl and
aquades-oil emulsion 500 mg/dl. In this study, the superficial gas velocity (JG) = 0.083 m/s
to 76.604 m/s and the liquid superficial velocity (JL) = 0.041 m/s to 4.145 m/s. Then the flow
pattern is obtained from the high-speed camera video recording, after which the flow pattern
map is obtained from the type of flow pattern produced.
The flow patterns generated from this research data are: Plug, slug Annular,
Annular and churn. The differences in the variation of the aquades and coconut oil emulsion
mixtures were not too much different in the plug, slug annular and annular flow patterns.
While the churn flow pattern experienced a difference in the water and oil emulsion mixture
of 350 mg/dl experienced an increase in the superficial gas velocity (JG) = 49.736 m/s and
the water and oil emulsion mixture of 500 mg/dl experienced an increase in the superficial
liquid velocity (JL) = 3.316 m/s. This difference occurs because the variation of the water
and oil emulsion mixture has quite different viscosity values, namely 130.00 Cp and 161.66
Cp, so that it affects the type of flow pattern obtained. In addition, there are differences in
the bubbly flow pattern which in this study did not appear. This is due to the absence of a
laminar to turbulent transition because a higher oil concentration results in a lower
Reynolds value.
