Abstract

Background: The Implementation of clinical practice learning is an important component
of nursing learning to prepare competent nurses. Clinical learning provides experiences to
enhance the development of attitudes, psychomotor skills, knowledge, time management
and problem solving skills. Nursing education programs in European, Asian and African
countries have much in common. Academics largely direct teaching and clinical
evaluation. Teachers from clinical fields also contribute to student learning. However, the
lack of clarity of roles, workload, and lack of knowledge between lecturers and
supervisors hinders clinical learning of nursing students. Research Objectives: Literature
This review aims to synthesize the existing literature related to the learning experiences of
nursing students in clinical practice. Methods: This literature review uses a database from
2015-2020 in English consisting of Pubmed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct. The
keywords used are "Experience AND Learning AND Nursing Student AND Clinical
Placement". Initial search results based on inclusion and exclusion criteria found 3,544
articles (Pubmed 549 articles, Google Scholar 2710 articles, articles and Science Direct
1,235). The final results of the article search after being reviewed, obtained 8 articles that
met the inclusion criteria. Results: This research resulted in four aspects of experience
including: psychological aspects, physical aspects, environmental aspects and social
aspects. The psychosocial aspects found five themes, namely; Stress, Frustration, anxiety, helplessness, and inattention. Physical Aspect found two themes, namely: doing manual
work and roughness during clinical practice. In the environmental aspect, two themes
were found, namely learning gaps and an unorganized environment, and in the social
aspect, there were two themes, namely lack of support and students were not welcomed as
students in the field, only considered disturbing. Conclusion: The findings in this study
that the importance of clinical learning in the integration of education and nursing
practice. Nurse educators and clinical nurses should strive to create a conducive
environment, which maximizes the clinical learning of nursing students, and educational
institutions should plan and design activities to support the implementation of clinical
practice.
