PENGETAHUAN PERAWAT RS PKU MUHAMMADIYAH YOGYAKARTA TENTANG ORANG DENGAN DEMENSIA

Background : Nurse's knowledge of people with dementia is very limited. This is
an evaluation material for nurses to improve nursing care in the elderly. Lack of
knowledge related to dementia in nurses in hospitals and limited training have
contributed to the causes of nursing problems for patients with dementia such as
handling cognitive disorders, functional disorders, and psychological and
behavioral problems. The number of elderly patients being treated at PKU Hospital
reaches a percentage of 50% of the total patients treated at the hospital and has
not received training and special dementia wards.
Research Objectives : This study aims to determine the description of nurses'
knowledge and to know the demographic data of PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta
Hospital about people with dementia.
Methodology : This research is a quantitative descriptive study with a total
sampling technique with a sample of 92 nurses who are in the adult ward Raudah,
Marwah, Sofa, and Zam-zam Muhammadiyah Hospital PKU Yogyakarta. This
study uses the Dementia Knowledge Assessment Scale (DKAS) questionnaire.
Results : In this study the level of nurses' knowledge about people with dementia
was low when seen from the DKAS score with a range of 0-50 that was found to be
average (mean = 23.93 SD 6.20).
Conclusion : Nurses who work on the Marwah, Raudah, Sofa, and Zam-zam adult
ward of PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital in Yogyakarta have low knowledge about
people with dementia.
