Abstract

Background : Mentally retarded children is a children with a disorder with lack intelligence since growth period (since born or childhood). Usually mentally development were lacked entirely. The main symptom is retarded intelligence in the point of view dentistry, mentally retarded children has many obstacles due to lack of skills and awareness to keep the oral health, so children need to be assist or trained about how to brush the teeth. The awareness should also tausht to maintain their oral health. Purpose : This study aimed to khow is there any impact of brusting teeth training toward the impronement of the awareness of brushing teeth in mentally retarded children. Method : Design of this Quasi Experiment. One-Time-Series Design Group, study were done in SLB-C Dharma Rena Ring Putra II Yogyakarta with the subjects of study 43 mentally retarded children. Data sampling were using questionnaires the awarnessof brushing teeth that have been fullfiled by parents. Data were analyzed using paired t-test test. Results : The awareness of brushing teeth in mentally retarded children in SLB Dharma Putra Rena Ring II were improved with p value <0.05. Summary : There is a influenceof influence brushing teeth training and the awarness of brushing teeth in mentally retarded children in SLB-C Dharma Rena Ring Putra II statistically significant.
