Abstract

This research aims to 1) find out the concept of children education concept
in the book of Tarbiyātul Abnā’a’, and 2) to analyze the accordance of children
education concept in the book of Tarbiyātul Abnā’a’ with the children development
psychology in the book of Life Span Development.
This research was a library research meaning that the main objects in this
research are library references covering primary, secondary, and supporting data.
The primary sources of this research were the book of Tarbiyātul Abnā’a’ and the
secondary source was the book of Life Span Development, Tarbiyātul Aulād Fii
Islām, and Prophetic Parenting, books of children development, and some relevant
literatures for this research. This research applied qualitative approach,
documentation, and data analysis using Miles and Huberman theory.
The research results show that first, it is about the thinking concept of
children education according to Musṭafā al-‘Adawῑ. In this book, he classifies
children education into 8 concepts namely praying for the children, doing the tahnik
(chewing dates until they are smooth and rub a little amount of the chewing on the
palate of newborn babies’ mouth) and giving a good name for the children, doing
circumcision, and doing aqiqah (an Islamic tradition of the sacrifice of an animal
in the occasion of a child’s birth), providing family time, training the obedience
since childhood, teaching about adab (Islamic etiquette), supervising the children
from the globalization’s influence, and marrying off the children. The advantage of
the discussion in Tarbiyātul Abnā’a’ is explaining the children education from
before the childbirth to the time of their marriage. Meanwhile, the disadvantage in
Tarbiyātul Abnā’a’ is that it does not explain any children education adjusted to the
children development age. The discussion is limitedly on the materials and only
discusses the materials contextually. The second research result is about the concept
of children education in the book of Tarbiyātul Abnā’a’ based on the point of view
of Musṭafā al-‘Adawῑ adjusted to the children development psychology. The result
of Mustafa’s concept suitability with the children development psychological
concept by Santrock is the suitability can be seen from the emotional, social, moral,
spritual development, and games. However, the concepts of children education
between Mustafa and Santrock need to be synergized again in term of the ideologu
of children’s education. It is intended that the concept of child educators can be
realized appropriately and well if adjust to the psychology of child development.
