Abstract

Motorcycle is a means of transportation that is used every day to reach an
activity or destination easily. Judging from the shape and size, motorbikes have
several advantages compared to cars including passing through congestion and
narrow alleys and therefore become the choice of many consumers from various
circles who want the effectiveness of travel time to reach their destination. The
purpose of this study was to determine the effect of pouring temperature on casting
on microstructure and aluminum alloy vickers test in Swingarm applications.
The process of this research was carried out by analyzing pouring
temperature variations in aluminum metal foundry. Testing is done by making a
swingarm then cut to the size specified to make a test specimen. The next process
is the test specimen is resined and then sanding until the surface of the test specimen
is completely smooth. The method used in this research is to melt the used piston
as a testing material with a certain temperature variation, then do the vickers and
microstructure test on the test specimen.
Comparison of the results of the vickers and microstructure test results with
pouring temperature variations in the swingarm casting showed a temperature of
700 ° C resulting in a hardness value of 129,3 HVN and the microstructure binding
on one another. Whereas at a temperature of 675 ° C produces a hardness value of
103,6 HVN with a micro structure that dominates aluminum and is less irregular
and at a temperature of 725 ° C produces a hardness value of 116,6 HVN with a
micro structure that dominates silicon and is irregular.
