Abstract

This research is based on the importance of a calm learning environment, free
from disturbances from the surroundings. When someone's learning, it requires high
concentration, studying will be useless if someone has difficulty concentrating because
it will only waste energy, time and money. However, in reality, students or university
students often have difficulty concentrating in learning.
This study aimed at determining the intensity of smartphone use and the level
of concentration of students in the Islamic Education Study Program, Universitas
Muhammadiyah University Yogyakarta and proving empirically whether there is an
effect of smartphone use on learning concentration among students of the Islamic
Education Study Program, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. This type of
research is field research (field research) with a quantitative approach. The sampling
technique chosen was proportionate stratified random sampling with the data analysis
technique of statistical descriptive analysis and simple linear regression analysis.
Based on the results of the frequency distribution analysis, the intensity level
of smartphone use is in the interval of 76 - 86. It shows that the intensity of smartphone
use for students of the Islamic Education Study Program of Muhammadiyah University
of Yogyakarta is in the medium category. Furthermore, the level of learning
concentration is in the interval of 84 - 97. It shows that the learning concentration of
students in the Islamic Education Study Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah
University Yogyakarta is in the medium category. In addition, the result of simple
linear regression analysis shows a significance value of 0.229. It can be seen that sig>
0.05, which means that there is no significant effect of the intensity of smartphone use
on the learning concentration of students in the Islamic Education Study Program,
Universitas Muhammadiyah University Yogyakarta. Therefore the alternative
hypothesis (Ha) in this study is rejected and the null hypothesis (H0) is accepted.
