Abstract
Basically, the final objective of learning is to produce the students who have skills and knowledge to solve the problem. With ability in solving the problem, students will be able to face the problem in society. This research aims to determine the English teachers’ perception toward the implementation of problem solving based
learning in English teaching and learning process at SMP IT Alam Nurul Islam Yogyakarta. The researcher used qualitative approach in conducting the research. An interview was conducted to gather the data from two English teachers of SMP IT Alam Nurul Islam Yogyakarta. The findings showed that all participants understood the concept of problem solving based learning. In addition, the finding showed that
the implementation of problem solving based learning enabled the students to be creative, students have critical thinking skills, students have ability to solve the
problem, students have better social skills, students have better social skills, students
can make good interaction to the teachers, students master content knowledge, and
students’ experience enjoyable learning. However, in the implementation of problem
solving based learning not all students were active and enthusiastic during teaching
and learning process. Secondly, the different of students’ intelligence, students
difficult to talk, students difficult to express their idea in English, teachers’ problems,
and material varies is the problem in implementation of problem solving based
learning.
