Abstract
Urine Iodine Excretion Levels (UIE) shows the daily intake of iodine. Congenital hypothyroidism is a disease of infants from birth caused by deficiency of thyroid hormone who needed for growth and development in infants. Golden Age (0-2 years old) is very important time to pay attention in growth and development of the infants carefully in order to be detected as early as possible if there is any abnormality. This research purpose is to determine the relationship between UIE levels in breastfeeding mothers with baby's physical growth at Tegalrandu, Srumbung, Magelang. This research method was observational, and the data taken by cross-sectional study. Respondents of this study were breastfeeding mothers and their baby aged under 2 years old, consisted 30 samples in both respondents. The UIE examined by Ammonium Persulfat Dry Digestion method. Baby's physical growth data taken by measurement of body weight, body length, upper arm circumference and head circumference. The results showed that median value of UIE in breastfeeding mothers in Tegalrandu village were 173.5 ppm (optimum). The highest frequency obtained in optimal urinary iodine status with normal's baby physical growth (20%), short stature's baby (23.33%),normal head circumference (23.33%) and normal's upper arm circumference (26,67%). Spearman correlation test for UIE with upper arm circumference (p=0,001, r=-0,566), UIE with body weight (p = 0.717, r =-0.069), UIE with body length (p = 0.139, r = 0.277), UIE with head circumference (v = 0.416, r = 0.154). The conclusion of this research that there was significant correlation between UIE with upper arm circumference.
