Abstract
Background: Blended learning is a combination of offline and online learning. This learning is applied to the Dental Medicine Study Program, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), especially in the new normal era. Perception is a process of interpretation and form of assessment of the received stimulus or object that is observed by a person directly. The purpose of this study is to find out how the description of the application of blended learning in the new normal era according to the perceptions of students in the 2018 and 2019 UMY Dental Education Study Program. Method: This study uses a qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach. The sample was taken from four active students of dentistry at UMY class 2018 and 2019 using the purposive sampling method with inclusion criteria of students who are currently or have participated in blended learning in the new normal era, with different genders, can represent their generation, and actively participate in public hearings. Collecting data by conducting in-depth interviews and documentation in the form of recordings during interviews. The data were analyzed using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) method using the quirkos application. Result: The results show that there is an increase in the intensity of interaction when blended learning is compared to full online learning, but it decreases when compared to full offline. The quality of interaction is better when full offline learning, but if blended learning is compared to full online then blended learning is better. The effectiveness of learning is also more effective in full offline learning, but blended learning is more effective when compared to full online learning. Conclusion: Overall, blended learning is better than full online, but still full offline learning is better than blended.
