Abstract
Background: Hypertension is one of the most common diseases suffered by the elderly. Factors causing hypertension in the elderly are divided into non-modifiable factors and modifiable factors such as lack of physical activity. Restrictions on activities during the COVID-19 pandemic also occurred in the chronic disease management program (Prolanis) group Clinic Pratama Firdaus, which prevented regular Prolanis gymnastics from being carried out. This restriction on Prolanis activities can have an impact on both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Purpose: This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between physical activity and the level of hypertension in elderly patients in the chronic disease management program at the Pratama Firdaus Clinic during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This research is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. The sampling method is a total sampling method with a sample of 36 people. Physical activity data were obtained from filling out the IPAQ questionnaire and blood pressure data was obtained from measurements with a sphygmomanometer. Data analysis using Spearman correlation test. Results: The results showed that most respondents' physical activity categories were moderate as many as 18 people. The hypertension level of most respondents were classified as hypertension grade I as many as 16 people. Based on the Spearman rank test, there were insignificant results between physical activity and the level of hypertension and diastolic blood pressure and significant results between physical activity and systolic blood pressure. Conclusion: Physical activity has a relationship with systolic blood pressure but has no relationship with the level of hypertension and diastolic blood pressure in the elderly group of Prolanis Clinic Pratama Firdaus.
