Abstract

Background : In developing countries, the optimal nutritional status conditions have not been achieved because of nutritional problems such as malnutrition, more nutrition and obesity still occur a lot including in Indonesia. There are several factors that can affect the nutritional status, one of them is sleep disorder. The quality of sleep affects the nutritional status of adults and the risk of complication disease. The aim of the study was to explore the relationship between sleep disorders and adolescent nutritional status in primary and secondary prevention efforts for obesity and the risk of future disease. Method : The research design used was quantitative with an observational method of analytical cross sectional approach. The independent variable is a sleep disorder and dependent variable is adolescent nutritional status. The population used in this study was students of grades X, XI, and XII with ages 15 to 19 years old at Muhammadiyah Pangandaran High School in 2021. The sample of 73 students met the criteria and were selected using simple random sampling techniques. The research instrument used informed consent, digital scales and microtoise and sleep disturbance scale for children (SDSC) questionnaires. Result : Based on statistical tests, it showed that the majority (93.0)% of adolescents in Muhammadiyah Pangandaran High School experienced sleep disorders (93%) and nutritional status in the good category (56%). Spearman's test showed a relationship between sleep disorders and nutritional status was p = 0.613; p > 0.05. The a relationship between sleep duration and nutritional status was p = 0.556; p > 0.05. Conclusion : There was no relationship between sleep disorders and adolescent nutritional status in Muhammadiyah Pangandaran High School and there was no relationship between sleep duration and nutritional status at Muhammadiyah Pangandaran High School
