Abstract
Pedagogical competences are one of competence that a teacher must fulfil. Therefore, many teacher training institutions provide courses that can help preservice teachers build pedagogical competences, and one of them is Microteaching course. This research aimed to explore how Microteaching course can help pre-service teachers build the pedagogical competences and investigates the pedagogical aspects that can be improved through Microteaching course. The study employed descriptive qualitative design and used in-depth interviews with six participants that is pre-service teachers of language education department on Private University in Kudus. The finding showed that there were three roles of Microteaching course that can build pre-service teachers’ pedagogical competences. The roles are: 1) helping pre-service teacher to make lesson plan, 2) giving the pre-service teachers teaching practice experiences, and 3) helping pre-service teachers evaluate their teaching practices. In addition, the researcher found six pedagogical aspects that can be developed by pre-service teachers by Microteaching course. These competences including: 1) competence to identify students’ characteristics, 2) competence to master the theories and principles of learning, 3) competence of learning organization, 4) competence to develop students’ potentials, 5) competence of communication, and 6) competence to conduct assessment and evaluation.
