Abstract
Background : Hypertension is a big problem in Indonesia, Hypertension is a disease with the most sufferers which is a non-communicable disease. The prevalence of hypertension in 2018 in Indonesia was 34.1%, while the prevalence of hypertension in Jetis Village was 31.4%. Hypertension that occurs in the long term can cause damage to the kidneys, heart, and brain. One of the factors that can increase the risk of hypertension is food consumption. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between food consumption and the incidence of hypertension in Jetis, Saptosari, Gunungkidul. Method : Quantitative research using analytic observational with cross sectional design. This study uses accidental sampling method with a total sample of 87 respondents. The research instrument is a questionnaire and analyzed by chi square correlation test. Results : Most respondents were found in the range (25-34) years. Most gender is female 45 respondents. Most recent education is junior high school 25 respondents. Most occupations are farmers with 36 respondents. Respondents who experienced hypertension were 22 respondents. Bivariate results related to hypertension were age (<0.001), education (<0.001), occupation (<0.001), and sodium consumption (0.022). Those not related to hypertension include gender (0.196), carbohydrate consumption (0.351), and fat consumption (0.355). Conclusion : There is a significant relationship between age, education, occupation, and sodium consumption with hypertension. There is no significant relationship between gender, carbohydrate consumption, and fat consumption with hypertension.
