Abstract
This research is aimed to determine the Islamic religious education (PAI) learning method applied by teachers to students at SLB (special schools for children with special needs) Muhammadiyah Gamping. This is a challenge because children with special needs are the ones needing intensive guidance. In addition, when doing an online learning, each student may not get guidance from parents. The aforementioned conditions are the challenges for the teachers to be able to carry out the online learning at SLB Muhammadiyah Gamping during the pandemic. This research used a qualitative method which was described descriptively and carried out at SLB Muhammadiyah Gamping on 28 September 2021 – 18 November 2021. The subject of this research was the classroom teachers, while the object studied was the learning method. In collecting the data, the researcher employed observation, interview, and documentation. The findings show that the school draft a new curriculum and the teachers make assessments and lesson plans in preparing the learning. In its implementation, the teachers use the online learning in the form of assignment method, habituation to foster character education for the students and a home visit. The obstacles in the learning include the students’ engagement level, the lack of parental attention, and the limited facilities owned by the students. The differences in carrying out the learning are in the preparation and materials which include the adjustment of lesson plans, worksheets, and assignments
