Abstract

Instagram is one of the social media that is widely used by many people. Instagram nature is naturally designed for entertainment such as creating, sharing, and watching content. On another side, many people especially in Indonesia are using Instagram as a platform for English practice outside the classroom. Instagram has many features and there are many activities in using those features for developing English skills. This research aims to investigate the activity of using the features on Instagram for developing students’ English skills. feature on Instagram that promote English practice outside the classroom and the activity of using the features on Instagram for developing students’ English skills. Using descriptive qualitative as the research design, the study collected the data from six participants of ELED student batch 2017 of a private university in Yogyakarta. In addition, observation and individual interviews were used for the data gathering. The findings revealed the activities of these participants in using the features on Instagram developed their English skills. Those activities are making videos on stories, writing captions, watching video post, and reading comments.
