Abstract
Pragmatics is a linguistic study that studies the relationship between the context outside the language and the meaning of speech through interpretation of the speaker's situation. Searle divides speech acts into five types, namely assertive, commissive, directive, expressive, and declarative. Directive speech acts are the types of speech acts used by speakers to tell other people to do something. This type of speech states what the speaker wants. Directive speech acts often appear in social life, but social life itself is not aware of it. This study aims to analyze the types and functions of Japanese directive speech acts in the video content of Nihongo Mantappu’s Channel for a period from early 2021 to the end of 2021. The videos analyzed were six videos in which there were directive speech acts. This study used a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The data was compiled with the note-taking technique, reviewed the six videos and then recorded the directive speech acts in the Nihongo Mantappu’s Channel. In the results of this study, the researcher found 34 data of directive speech acts with 6 types of directive speech acts and 20 functions. The 6 types include orders, requests, suggestions, invitations, permissions, and prohibitions. While the 20 functions are demand, allowing, requiring, ordering, forcing, expecting, offering, requesting, advising, recommending, reminding, suggesting, inviting, urging, seducing, showing, asking for approval, asking permission, forbidding, and preventing.
