Abstract

Background: Allergic rhinitis is a common disorder that often occurs in children and adolescents and carries a high disease burden. Allergic rhinitis is a common chronic condition in adolescents aged 10 to 17 years. The current global mean symptomatic rhinoconjunctivitis in the 13-14 year age group is 14.6% and the mean prevalence of rhinoconjunctivitis symptom in the 6-7 year age group is 8.5% Sensitization to at least one allergen tested differs by age (59.2%, 58.3%, 68.2%, respectively in elementary, middle, and high school students), and seasonal allergen sensitization (35.0%, 37.1%, 53.9%) increased with increasing age. This shows that the majority of allergic rhinitis occurs in adolescents. Methods: This research is a quantitative research, this type of research uses a pre-experimental type of research with a research design of One Group pre-test Post-test Design. The population in this study were high school students in Sumedang Regency with a sample of 63 students. Data analysis was carried out by paired t test analysis. Results: Most of the students' knowledge before being given education was in the sufficient category, namely 38 respondents (60.3%). Most of the students' knowledge after being given education was in the good category, namely as many as 33 respondents (52.4%). Education is considered effective in increasing knowledge on the treatment of allergic rhinitis with mild symptoms in high school students in Sumedang Regency, with the significance value of the Wilcoxon test results showing (P = 0.000 <0.05). Conclusion: The effectiveness of education can increase knowledge for the treatment of allergic rhinitis with mild symptoms in high school students in Sumedang Regency.
