Abstract

In the turning process, machining parameters greatly affect the quality of a product. Some industries are often asked by consumers to meet the quality of a product, especially surface roughness. Many lathe operators are only fixated on the product size drawing without knowing the things that can affect the surface roughness value, so that many product failures cause the company's consumer dissatisfaction. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of machining parameters on surface roughness. The study was conducted by turning the specimens of aluminum alloy 6061 with various feed speeds of 47.5 mm/min and 345.6 mm/min, angles of cut 60o and 80o, and depth of cut 1 mm and 3 mm. The results of turning are tested for roughness using a surface roughness tester and macro tested to see the structure of the surface roughness. The data obtained was then analyzed using the Minitab 2019 application to see the effect on each cutting parameter that worked individually or simultaneously. To integrate the research parameters using the geometric factorial analysis method. The results showed that the greater the feed speed, the greater the surface roughness, the lowest roughness was 6,445 m at a depth of cut of 1 mm, the feed speed was 47.5 mm/min and the cutting angle was 80o. In this study, the greater the cutting angle at the lower level of the feed speed, the smaller the surface roughness value, the greater the cutting angle at the upper level of the feed speed, the greater the surface roughness value.
