Abstract
Background : Cases of depression are world health problems that are easy to find in adults. According to WHO data (2016), people with depressed mood disorders reach 300 million people. This figure increased by more than 18% of cases of depression during 2005 to 2015. WHO (2001) also added that the existence of stigma, discrimination, and neglected curative preventive efforts in people with mental disorders are factors that cause this phenomenon. Stigma is a false belief. Stigma consists of labeling, stereotyping, and discrimination (Link and Phelan, 2001). The possibility of stigma as a risk factor makes this study important to do to find out whether stigma in people with depression is a risk factor for delaying seeking medical help. Objective : This study aims to determine the stigma in people with depression as a risk factor for delay in seeking medical help. Research method : This study uses a quantitative approach to correlation with the Spearman test. The population of this study were depressed patients who came to Wonosari Hospital and PKU Muhammadiyah Wonosari Hospital with a sample of 50 respondents who met the inclusion category. Result : The results showed that there was a significant relationship between stigma in people with depression and delays in seeking medical help with the Spearman correlation, a significance value of 0.007
